Naturally, we are proud of all the great things at Hakai Lodge – the consistent fishing, the beautiful scenery, the mild weather, the comfortable accommodations – but the highlight of the whole experience is our STAFF who keep everything clean and operating properly. When our guests aren’t enjoying the great fishing, they’re commenting on our outstanding staff.
Our staff includes fishmasters, chef and baker (white uniforms and all), waiters, waitresses, maids and boat boys. They are courteous, friendly, and fun. Several have been with the Lodge for over 20 years. Chef Smitty has been with us since 1985. He is a first class chef, as well as a charming and very popular dining room host. He is originally from Newfoundland, and has become a central figure in the operation of Hakai Lodge. Smitty’s prime rib and roast turkey dinners are well known and remembered.
Smitty’s son Todd was one of the original fish masters and has been with us since the 1980’s as well. Our baker Holli started in 1980, making her the longest running employee at Hakai. Holli makes the finest bread and German chocolate cakes on the Coast. She and Todd are now married with four children – and two of them also work at the Lodge.
Fish masters Terry and Mike, also from Newfoundland, have been with the Lodge for over 15 years. They have a knack for locating the fish and directing guests to the best spots daily.
The Hakai Staff has an extended-family feel that will welcome you to the Lodge. They are as friendly and sociable as they are dedicated to the Lodge, and our guests love them. They are some of the best and most loyal employees we could have asked for.
