Canadian Possession Limits Unchanged - April 7, 2008
Last month, US federal and state officials declared an emergency fishing ban for 7 salmon fishing zones along the California and Oregon coasts, due to concern over very small runs.

However, salmon runs have remained strong in recent years along the Canadian coast and Hakai Passage, especially since commercial fishing in our area was eliminated.

This summer at Hakai Lodge, possession limits remain at eight (8) salmon and two (2) halibut per person.

Strong Chinook Run Expected in 2008 - February 26, 2008
Fishery officials announced last month that a strong return of Chinook Salmon is expected for the Columbia River this year. A panel of federal, state and tribal officials anticipate over 269,000 spring Chinook will return to the mouth of the Columbia River in 2008.

Fishery officials base their projections upon dam counts and fish-catch data. More than 16,000 spring Chinook jacks passed Bonneville Dam last spring, double the 10-year average.

Hakai Lodge Produces Fishing Derby Winners - December 17, 2007
In 2007, two Hakai Lodge guests caught prize-winning fish. The annual fishing derby supports the Rivers Inlet Hakai Pass Sportfishing Association Derby. Money from derby entrants directly supports the fish hatchery.

Gary Livemore from Langley Washington caught the largest Coho for 2007, at 23 lbs. 6 oz., at Hakai Lodge. He won a floater vest and a complete fishing outfit.

Sean Dickey, of Snohomish Washington, also entered a prize catch, winning a fishing reel and rod.
